I went to the
Hampton Mansion this Saturday and went on a tour. It was very interesting that the Ridgely's "borrowed" (ok, stole) their family crest from some other family, as they didn't have one. There was also an interesting clock hand crafted by John Lynch with a battle scene depicting the
USS Hornet sinking the HMS Peacock, 24 February 1813.
Hampton Mansion's driveway was originally in Baltimore city as Towson was all wilderness and it took a whole day to get there. People had to be mindful of the wolves! Men changed their names to inherit the property at times since women could not received property.
Changes are coming so check out this National Historic Site located in your area!
